The MAG-Hungarian Economic Development Centre hold a large-scale international conference on November 14th and 15th, 2007, titled “Together for a More Competitive Europe”. The conference was centered on developing the competitiveness of EU member states, on the experiences and strategies they will deploy in the financial period 2007-2013 in the field of economic development, and on how their notions on programmes and execution have changed. The first day of the conference offered an overview of the experiences in the utilization of EU funds by new member states, of the contents of the recently passed economic development operational programmes, and of the key issues and challenges of the period ahead of us. During the second day of the conference, representatives of the new member states introduced execution ideas for the new period, explained the changes effected compared to the previous period, and presented the most important aspects and directions of transforming the institutional system of economic development.
